Sharing maps

Coming soon

This feature is built but not yet available in SciNodes. Details may change.

In short: Sharing one map on its own is not available yet. When it launches, you will be able to invite people to a map by email with View or Edit access, or copy a share link. Until then, share the whole project from Project Settings → Collaborators, or export the map as an image or PDF.

How it will work

When map sharing launches, the Share button opens Share Research Map, where you will be able to:

  • Invite by email: enter an email address, choose View or Edit, and click Invite.
  • Share link: copy a link to the map with Copy.

You may already see the Share button in the project header and at the top right of an open map. Map sharing isn't available yet, so invitations and links from that dialog don't work.

Share a map today

Option 1: share the project

Everyone you add to a project can open its saved maps.

  1. Open the project and click the gear icon to open Project Settings.
  2. Go to Collaborators.
  3. Type the person's email in "Invite by email...", choose Viewer or Editor, and send the invite.
  4. Save any draft maps you want them to see. Drafts are private to you. See Drafts and saving maps.

Only the project owner can invite people, and they need a SciNodes account. Details: Collaboration.

Option 2: export the map

  1. Open the map and click Download at the top right.
  2. Choose PNG, SVG or PDF and click Export.
  3. Send the file, or add it to your slides or manuscript.

Details: Exporting maps.

FAQ

Not yet. Share the project, or export the map and send the file.

Will people I share a project with see all my maps?

They see the project's saved maps. Your drafts stay private until you save them.

Can a collaborator change my map?

No. Only the person who made a map can rename, save, delete it or exclude and merge nodes. Collaborators can explore it and build their own maps.
