Filter and sort SciVerse results

In short: On the SciVerse results page, the Filters panel narrows publication results. Set a Publication year range, tick Open access only, use Refine by to include or exclude specific authors, organizations, topics, journals or conferences, or click a bucket under Topics. Filters apply on the Publications and All tabs only. Use Sort to order results by Relevance, Newest or Most cited.

Filter by publication year

  1. Run a search, then make sure the Publications or All tab is selected.
  2. Under Publication year, type a year in From, To, or both.
  3. Press Enter or click outside the box. Results update.

On the home page, click the Year chip under the search box to set the range before you search.

Show only open access publications

  1. Under Access, tick Open access only.
  2. Results update to show only publications marked open access.

On the home page, click the Access chip to set this before you search.

Include or exclude an author, organization, topic or venue

  1. Under Refine by, choose what to filter on: Author, Organization, Topic, Journal or Conference.
  2. Choose Include to keep only matching publications, or Exclude to remove them.
  3. Start typing a name in the box below, for example "Search author…".
  4. Pick the right match from the suggestions. If nothing matches, you see "No matches".
  5. The filter appears as a chip: "+" for include, "−" for exclude, for example "+ Author: name".
  6. To remove a filter, click ✕ on its chip.

You can add as many filters as you need, up to the limit below. The same author, organization, topic or venue can't be both included and excluded: adding it again with the other choice switches the existing filter.

Filter by topic

After a search, the Topics section lists the main topics in the matching publications, with a count for each.

  1. Click a topic to include it. It becomes a Topic include filter.
  2. Click it again to remove it.

Sort results

Open Sort above the results and choose:

SortOrder
RelevanceBest match to your search term first (default)
NewestMost recent first
Most citedHighest citation count first

The Sort menu is available on every tab, not just Publications.

Clear filters

  • Click Clear all at the top of the Filters panel.
  • On the home page, click Clear all next to the chips. Click See results → to run a search with the chips you set.

Clear all resets the whole search: the search term, type tab, year range, open access, sort and every include or exclude filter. The Clear all filters button under "No results found" does the same.

FAQ

How do I find publications from one journal?

On the Publications tab, choose Refine by → Journal → Include, type the journal name and pick it from the suggestions.

How do I exclude a topic or an author?

Choose Refine by → Topic or Author, set Exclude, then type and pick the name. Publications matching it are removed from the results.

Can I filter authors or journals by year?

No. Year, open access and refine-by filters apply to publications only. To see an author's publications, open the author's page from the Authors tab or list.

Do filters cost anything?

As a guest, no. When you're signed in, each change re-runs the search, and each search uses a small amount of your weekly credit budget. Type-ahead suggestions in Refine by are free. See Guest vs signed in.
