Find most-cited authors, organizations and journals

In short: In SciVerse, the header links Authors, Organizations, Journals and Conferences open ranked lists ordered by total citations. The journal and conference lists include only venues that are still publishing. Each list shows 25 per page and has a search box to find a name. Click any name to open its page with citation and publication counts, topics and every publication, page by page. Lists and pages are free and open to everyone, with no sign-in needed.

The four ranked lists

Header linkPage headingRanked byAddress
Authors"Most-cited authors"Total citations/authors
Organizations"Most-cited organizations"Total citations/research-organizations
Journals"Active journals"Total citations, still publishing only/journals
Conferences"Active conferences"Total citations, still publishing only/conferences

The footer also links to the authors and organizations lists, under People & Places, and to journals and conferences, under Venues.

Browse a ranked list

  1. Go to sciverse.scinodes.com and click Authors, Organizations, Journals or Conferences in the header.
  2. Scroll the list. Each card shows the name, a subtitle line, "N citations", "N publications" and topic tags.
  3. Click Next → or ← Previous to move between pages. The pager shows "Page X of Y".
  4. Click a name to open its page.

Find a specific author, organization or venue

  1. Open the list, for example Journals.
  2. Type in the search box, for example "Search journals…". Results update as you type and show "N journals found".
  3. Click the name you want.
  4. To go back to the ranked list, click Clear.

When you're signed in, a name search inside a list counts as a search and uses a small amount of your weekly credit budget. Browsing the ranked list itself is free. See Guest vs signed in.

You can also find authors, organizations, journals and conferences from the main search: run a search and click the matching tab. See Searching.

What a detail page shows

Open a detail page by clicking a name in a ranked list or in search results.

  • The kind of page: Author, Organization, Journal or Conference.
  • The name and a subtitle line, such as an affiliation.
  • "N citations" and "N publications".
  • Topic tags.
  • The publications, 25 per page, with Next → and ← Previous. Each publication has Add to SciNodes. See Add to SciNodes.
  • A link back to the list, for example "← Back to authors".

Page addresses

Each detail page has a readable address you can bookmark or share:

PageAddress patternExample
Author/author/name--id/author/geoffrey-e-hinton--a2ch86iz
Organization/research-organization/name--id
Journal/journal/name--id
Conference/conference/name--id

The name part is there to make the link readable. The part after the double hyphen identifies the page, so a link keeps working even if the name is spelled differently.

Tips

  • Most-cited authors in your field: search your field, click the Authors tab and choose Sort → Most cited. The Authors list in the header ranks everyone in the catalog.
  • Choose where to publish: search your field, click the Journals or Conferences tab, and compare citation and publication counts. See Choose where to publish.
  • Collect an author's publications: open the author's page and click Add to SciNodes on each publication you want in your project.

FAQ

How are authors ranked in SciVerse?

By total citations in the catalog, which comes from OpenAlex. The same applies to organizations, journals and conferences.

Why isn't a journal in the Active journals list?

The Journals and Conferences lists include only venues that are still publishing. Search for the journal by name instead.

Do I need to sign in to browse rankings?

No. Ranked lists and detail pages are free and open to everyone. They don't use credits.

Can I save an author or journal in SciVerse?

No. SciVerse has no bookmarks. In the SciNodes app, you can save authors and venues to a project. See Saved authors and venues.
