Legacy projects
In short: Marking a project as legacy archives it. It leaves your active projects, its corpus, maps and notes can't be opened until you restore it, and it stops counting against your active-project quota. Nothing is deleted. To archive, open Project Settings → Lifecycle → Mark as legacy. To bring it back, click Restore to active in the same place. Only the project owner can do either.
Mark a project as legacy
- Open the project and click the Overview tab.
- Click the gear icon next to the project name to open Project Settings.
- Under Lifecycle, click Mark as legacy.
- In "Mark project as legacy?", click Mark as legacy.
"Archived "project name" as legacy." confirms it. The project now appears under Legacy in the sidebar.
Find your legacy projects
Click Legacy in the sidebar to open Legacy Projects. The link only appears once you have at least one legacy project.
Legacy project cards carry a Legacy badge and a Restore to access link instead of the usual shortcuts. + New Project is hidden on this page.
What you can do with a legacy project
Clicking a legacy project opens its Project Settings, not its tabs. The header shows "Legacy — restore to edit" instead of the tab bar. The corpus, maps, notes and chats are kept but can't be opened until you restore the project.
Restore a project
- Click Legacy in the sidebar.
- Click Restore to access on the project's card. Project Settings opens.
- Under Lifecycle, click Restore to active.
"Restored "project name" to active projects." confirms it. If restoring takes a moment, you see "Restoration of "project name" is in progress." The project returns to My Projects with all its content.
Legacy compared with deleting
| Mark as legacy | Delete project | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it goes | Legacy list | Bin |
| Content kept | Yes, all of it | Yes, until removed from the Bin |
| Can you open it? | Only its settings | No |
| How to undo | Restore to active | Restore in the Bin |
See Recycle bin.
Troubleshooting
- "Only the project owner can archive it." You're an Editor or Viewer. Ask the owner.
- "Only the project owner can restore it." Same: ask the owner.
- "This project is already archived." It's already in Legacy.
- "This project is not archived." It's already active. Look for it in My Projects.
- I can't see a Legacy link in the sidebar. You have no legacy projects.
FAQ
Does marking a project as legacy delete anything?
No. Everything is kept. It just can't be opened until you restore it.
Why would I archive a project?
To tidy finished projects out of your active workspace and free a place in your active-project quota, without losing anything.
Can I still see a legacy project's maps or notes?
Not while it's archived. Restore it to active first.
Can a collaborator archive or restore my project?
No. Only the owner can.
