Project settings

In short: Project Settings is where you invite collaborators, rename the project, change its research focus, archive it as legacy or delete it. Open it from the gear icon next to the project name on the Overview tab. Only the project owner can invite people, change roles, archive, restore or delete the project.

Open Project Settings

  1. Open the project and click the Overview tab.
  2. Click the gear icon ("Project settings") next to the project name.

You can also click the gear icon on the project's card in My Projects. Archived (legacy) projects always open on this page.

The page has four sections: Collaborators, Compliance & Governance, General and Lifecycle.

Collaborators

The top of the section says how many people have access, then lists each member with their role.

RoleCan do
OwnerEverything, including inviting, changing roles, archiving and deleting
EditorEdit and rename the project; can't manage members
ViewerRead only

To invite someone:

  1. Type their email in "Invite by email...".
  2. Choose Editor or Viewer.
  3. Click Send invite. "Shared with email." confirms it.

The person needs an existing SciNodes account. To change a member's role, use the menu next to their name. To remove someone, click the remove button on their row. Full details, including what collaborators can see: Collaboration.

The Lab row shows which lab the project belongs to.

Coming soon

Lab spaces are not available yet, so the Lab row doesn't do anything today. See Lab.

Compliance & Governance

Coming soon

The Compliance & Governance controls are not available yet. Nothing you change in this section is saved or enforced.

General

SettingHow to change it
Project nameType the new name and click Save (or press Enter). "Saved" confirms it. The name is visible to all members.
Current research focusClick focus chips to add or remove them, up to 3. Changes save on their own and show "Saved".

You can also rename the project and edit its description on the Overview tab. See Project overview.

Lifecycle

Mark as legacy

Archives the project. It moves out of your active projects, its corpus, maps and notes stop being reachable until you restore it, and it stops counting against your active-project quota.

  1. Click Mark as legacy.
  2. In "Mark project as legacy?", click Mark as legacy.

To bring it back, click Restore to active in the same place. See Legacy projects.

Delete project

  1. Click Delete project.
  2. In "Delete this project permanently?", type the project name exactly as shown.
  3. Click I understand, delete project.

The project moves to the Bin, and collaborators lose access straight away. You can restore it from the Bin. See Recycle bin.

FAQ

Can an Editor delete the project?

No. Only the owner can delete, archive, restore or share a project.

Is deleting a project permanent?

Not straight away. The project goes to the Bin, where you can restore it. Deleting it from the Bin removes it for good.

Why can't I change the project's lab?

Lab spaces aren't available yet (coming soon).

Does changing the research focus change my publications?

No. The focus describes what the project is about. It doesn't add or remove publications.
