Saved authors and venues
In short: Authors and Venues in the Library sidebar are your bookmark lists for the people, journals and conferences that matter to a project. Save an author or venue from a node on a research map with Save author or Save venue, let SciNodes save them automatically when you write a note, add them to Research in Formation or ask the assistant about them, or click Suggest authors / Suggest venues to have AI find the most active ones for a research focus.
Open the lists
- Open the project's Library tab.
- In the sidebar, click Authors or Venues. The number next to each is how many you've saved.
What the tables show
| List | Columns | Search box |
|---|---|---|
| Authors | Name, ORCID (links to the ORCID profile), Publications, Saved | "Search saved authors by name or ORCID" |
| Venues | Name, Type, ISSN, Publications, Saved | "Search saved venues by name, ISSN or publisher" |
Click a column heading to sort by it. Each row has three actions:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| View publications in corpus | Shows the corpus publications by that author or in that venue |
| RIF it | Adds the author or venue to Research in Formation |
| Remove | Asks "Remove from saved authors?" (or venues), then takes it off the list when you click Remove. The author or venue and their publications in your corpus aren't affected. |
Save from a map
- On the Research Maps tab, open a map whose nodes are authors or venues, and click a node. See Map types for which maps use these units.
- In the panel on the right, click Save author or Save venue.
The button changes to Author saved or Venue saved. Click it again to remove it from the list.
Automatic saving
By default, SciNodes saves an author or venue when you:
- write a note about it on the map
- add it to Research in Formation
- ask the assistant about it
Right after an automatic save, the button reads Undo autosave. Click it if you didn't want the author or venue saved.
To change which actions save automatically, open the account menu → User Preferences → Autosave authors or Autosave venues. See Preferences.
Suggest authors or venues
- Open Authors or Venues and click Suggest authors or Suggest venues.
- Set How many authors or How many venues (50 by default, up to 200).
- Under "What are you looking for?", describe a research focus. Your project description is filled in as a starting point.
- Click Find authors or Find venues. SciNodes finds those publishing most on the focus, based on real catalog counts.
- Review the results. Ones you've already saved are left unticked and marked "Already saved". Use Select all or Select none as needed.
- Click Save N selected authors (or venues).
- Click Back to Saved Authors (or Back to Saved Venues) to see the list.
Suggestions use your weekly AI credits. See Credits and usage.
Limits
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Suggestions per search | 1 to 200, 50 by default |
| Saved list size | No fixed limit |
Troubleshooting
- "No saved authors yet." Select an author node on a map and click Save author, or click Suggest authors.
- "No saved authors match your search." Click Clear to reset the search box.
- "Add a little more — a few words at least." Your focus is too short to search on. Add a few words.
- "Nothing found for "…"" Describe the focus more broadly and try again.
- "Weekly complex compute budget spent." Your weekly AI credits are used up. Wait for the reset in the message.
