Publication details

In short: Click a publication in the Library list to open its details on the right. You see its type, title, authors, journal, year, identifiers and abstract, plus buttons to view, fetch or upload its PDF, write a note, chat about it and Cite it. You can give it a short alias, file it in folders, add it to Research in Formation with RIF it, and read a machine translation of its title and abstract.

Open the details

  1. Open the project's Library tab.
  2. Click a publication in the list.

Use the toggle at the edge of the panel to collapse or expand it. The same panel appears beside the PDF viewer, so you can read a PDF without losing the details, note or chat.

Give a publication an alias

An alias is a short name you choose, such as "HN22". It appears before the title in the list, and you can search by it.

  1. In the details panel, click Add an alias.
  2. Type a short name (up to 48 characters).
  3. Click Save.

To change it, click Rename. To delete it, click Remove. You can also use Set alias or Rename alias in the row menu.

Read a translation

When a translation is possible, buttons under the title let you switch versions: Original, English (if the publication isn't in English) and your explainer language (if you've set one other than English), shown by its own name. SciNodes translates the title and abstract. The original stays untouched, and the panel shows "Machine translation from language". Translations use your weekly AI credits. See Translation.

Retracted publications

A retracted publication shows a Retracted badge in the list and a warning in the panel: "This publication has been retracted. Treat its findings and citations with caution."

The row menu

Click the ⋯ button on a row, or right-click it, for:

  • View PDF, Replace PDF and Remove PDF (your own upload only), or Fetch PDF and Upload PDF
  • Write note, Chat about this, Cite this
  • RIF: add it to Research in Formation
  • Set alias / Rename alias
  • Copy to folder (or Move / add to folder), Copy to another project
  • Unsave, if it's in My references

Troubleshooting

  • "Could not translate this publication." Click Retry. If your weekly AI credits are spent, the message says when they reset.
  • "Remove your uploaded PDF?" This removes only your own uploaded copy. A shared open-access copy, if there is one, stays available.
  • "Could not save that alias." Try a shorter or different alias.
  • "Select a publication to see its details." Nothing is selected. Click a row in the list.

FAQ

Can I correct a publication's title or authors?

No. The bibliographic fields come from the catalog or your import and are read-only. You can give it an alias, write notes about it and file it in folders.

What does "RIFfed!" mean?

The publication is already a research object in Research in Formation. See Research in Formation.

Why is there no abstract?

Not every publication in the catalog comes with an abstract. You can find publications without abstracts with Filters → Abstract → Not available.

What can the assistant see when I chat about a publication?

Its PDF text if SciNodes holds a copy, plus your notes and highlights on it. See Attachments and what's in view.
